S.H.A.D.E.S.

S.H.A.D.E.S. is Jessica’s second novel and first work of poetry. She explores race and gender inequalities to shed light on the discrimination minorities have experienced in America.

This work of poetry isn’t meant to demean the majority – its aim is to spread awareness and exemplify the beauty within each minority’s melanin.

“For me, being silenced

Created more violence

It’s like caging a lioness

Before she catches her prey

Expecting her appetite

To be kept at bay

-Excerpt from S.H.A.D.E.S.

“Don’t be looking all incredulous

Minorities can have a superfluous

Vocabulary when necessary

Yet, y’all will still label us as, scary”

-Excerpt from S.H.A.D.E.S.

“Everyone should be a pariah

Protesting Against Racism Injustice And Hate”

-Excerpt from S.H.A.D.E.S.
